How do driveway gates deter potential burglars?
1. They create an obstacle that means it takes longer to get into the property and out of the property.
2. It is conspicuous to be seen climbing over a tall fence
3. A fence generally indicates that there are likely other security features
4. They pose a physical and psychological barrier- the more difficult it seems to get in and out of a house quickly, the less attractive it is to potential burglars.
Automatic Gates are used to control access into a secured area.
Most commonly, automatic gates are used at the entrance to the facility, and
are used to control vehicular access on and off of the site. For example, a
manufacturing plant may use an automatic gate at its main entrance. All
vehicles entering and exiting the plant must do so through the automatic gate.
Automatic gates are also used at interior areas within a facility. For example,
automatic gates are commonly used within the inside of a parking garage to separate
employee parking areas from public areas of the garage.
Automatic gates consist of two basic
components:
·
Gate: The gate is the physical object that is moved to
block the gate opening. Most gates used in commercial applications are made of
either ornamental iron or chain-link material and are usually designed to match
the fencing adjacent to where the gate is installed.
·
Gate Operator: The gate operator is the machinery that moves the
gate in and out of the gate opening. Gate operators are electrically-powered
and may be chain-driven, gear-driven, or hydraulic depending on the type of
operator.
There are five types of commonly used
automatic gates
Sliding gates
It is most often a single leaf, with
wheels beneath its base that runs on a track across the driveway entrance.
Sliding gates are moved by a motor to which a protruding toothed cog is
attached. This meshes with a rack mounted on the inside of the gate, opening or
closing the gate as the motor rotates the cog
Swing gate
Swing gates rotate
around hinges on gate posts at the sides of driveway entrances. Sliding gates
are moved by a static motor. They typically have backup batteries, remote
controls, other settings and can be solar powered too
Barrier gate
The bar moves slowly towards the
barrier, which is then automatically opened. The automatic barriers are
equipped with gearmotors to increase the speed at which vehicles can pass
through them
Cantilever Gate:
They're called cantilever gates because
they use what's known as a 'cantilever' system. This type of system is where a
structure hangs over the edge of something, without external bracing. In the
case of cantilever gates, it's the gate itself that hangs off the ground, using
two gate posts for support
Overhead I beam Gate
Overhead slide gates use an overhead
beam to support an enclosed track. A gate panel (usually aluminum for lighter
weight and better appearance) is hung from the overhead track, to roll back and
forth, opening and closing. An advantage of an overhead slide gate is it
requires less space for the gate panel to open/slide into (no counterbalance is
needed).
